Mandatory Reporting and Youth Empowerment

Everyone in the state of Indiana is a Mandatory Reporter- but many of us don’t understand what needs to be reported. This workshop explains Mandatory Reporting laws and gives folks the resources they need to be able to explain the law to vulnerable populations who the law might impact. We will also work to understand what a person’s responsibility is to Mandatory Reporting laws and VAWA laws that can feel in conflict with one another and review how to safety plan with people who have experienced harm and whether a report will be made or not. Because confidential resources that do not trigger reports are often sought by people who have experienced harm, this workshop will also explain how vulnerable populations can access confidential resources that will not initiate a report, providing a place to ask questions and make safety plans.
