Switchyard Park

Registration for this event is now closed.

You’re invited! We’re excited to announce our Annual Spring Luncheon has been re-imagined as a Drive-Thru event! Stop by Switchyard Park Pavilion on April 15th and enjoy a boxed lunch, an inspiring book, empowering art, and an optional t-shirt.

This year’s Spring Luncheon celebrates all the ways people find empowerment. Whether through art, music, reading, nature or education; empowerment comes in many forms.

Along with information about Middle Way House, you’ll receive a copy of Joy McCullough’s bold novel in verse “Blood, Water, Paint.” It’s based on the life of Artemisia Gentileschi, a renowned female renaissance painter who found empowerment in her art and her mother’s stories and confronted the teacher who assaulted her. It’s beautifully written and especially appropriate for April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

For those interested, there will be an optional online discussion about the book a few weeks after the luncheon on April 29th with the title Artemisia: A portrait of empowerment.

Please consider greeting spring next to a beautiful park with Middle Way House!

“A story expertly told in verse, BloodWaterPaint retells the true story of Artemisia Gentileschi, a female painting prodigy in the 16thcentury. The book follows her frustrations in a male-dominated society – the injustices of her father, her painting “tutor,” and an incredibly sexist court system.” ~ From a student review at the University of Illinois
