Conflict and Mediation Skill-Up: A Book Club and Practice Space for Holding Change

February 21, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

This event is virtual! Join us over Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83082183817.

Each Spring we work on skilling ourselves and our community up in mediation and group facilitation- two skill sets that gives us the equipment to respond to harm before it turns into patterns that are hard to break and to network with one another toward safety and stronger community. (When harm is a pattern, we support folks in learning infrastructure for accountability- which we also offer workshops for). We loosely use Adrienne Marie Brown’s book “Holding Change” for this exploration of mediation and facilitation- but you can come to our practice space without having read the book. We do hope everyone who participates comes with ideas for role-play scenarios that might flourish with the specific types of facilitation/mediation that we are exploring in the week. You can expect to work in pairs and small group practicing facilitation and mediation styles. Practice will be messy/imperfect and and will move us toward growth in our own skills.

Topics:
Feb 21: Non-Violent Communication Mediation (see link above)
Feb 28: Return to: Highlights, Assessment, Closing and Opening.

Reading Resources:  Holding Change: The Way of Emergent Strategy Facilitation and Mediation  by adrienne maree brown is available as an ebook through MCPL hoopla (available for free with your library account). Each session is stand-alone, you do not need to attend every session. The Non-Violent Communication Mediation resource for Feb 21 is available at https://www.mediate.com/what-is-nvc-mediation-a-powerful-model-for-healing-and-reconciling-conflict/
